Preparing planting pit-piles!
On right: A shallow pit dug by removing the top layer of soil hosting grass, and flipping those grass-soil chunks upside down on the upslope edges of the pit (to subtly divert excess water).
On left: A similar pit as on right, filled in with ~3gal of moist muck brought from the pond dig by bucket. This soil is wet and chunky but suitable for planting.
